Geneva Cities Hub and United Cities and Local Governments sign a MoU

In November 2022, the Geneva Cities Hub (GCH) and United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), thus formalizing their cooperation in various fields.

The MoU affirms among others, that the GCH and UCLG will continue to co-organize events, to cooperate on matters related to Geneva-based international organizations, including UN-related processes; to cooperate to strengthen ties between the GCH and the Global Task Force of LRGs (GTF) in particular by building bridges between members of the GTF and Geneva-based actors that work on urban issues and/or with LRGs; and to join forces to enhance the participation of LRGs in relevant Geneva-based multilateral processes, such as the UN Human Rights Council and its Universal Periodic Review or WHO-related processes.

I am very glad to formalize partnership with the largest city network, of which the city of Geneva is an active member” commented Sami Kanaan, Deputy Mayor of the City of Geneva, President of the Geneva Cities Hub and Chair of the UCLG Task force on the territorial prevention and management of crises.

This MoU paves the way for further cooperation on numerous topics that are at the heart of International Geneva, including health, human rights, humanitarian affairs and forced displacement. In addition, the GCH is ready to facilitate, through this MoU, access to the wealth of actors based in Geneva for UCLG, the GTF and its members, so that more visibility is provided to the New Urban Agenda and the localization of SDGs.
