This section presents work on urban issues that international actors are doing in Geneva. It aims to showcase that work, forge connections between those actors, and build a community of urban experts in Geneva.
Headquartered in Geneva, UNDRR works with States and a wide range of other partners to reduce disaster risk. Given that more and more disasters hit cities, UNDRR has also been engaging with them to improve local resilience.
The ICRC helps people affected by conflict and armed violence and promotes the laws that protect victims of war. It operates worldwide, including in urban areas where the human cost of armed conflict and violence is innumerable.
The Human Rights Council is the principal UN intergovernmental body responsible for the promotion and protection of human rights. As such, it looks upon the role of local governments and its subsidiary mechanisms engage with them.
The High-Level Panel on Internal Displacement works to identify recommendations on how to better address the global internal displacement crisis. Internal displacement in urban contexts is one of the issues examined by the Panel.
