World Cities Day: Building Climate Resilient Cities with Digital Transformation

On 28 October 2021, to celebrate Urban October, the co-Director of the Geneva Cities Hub, Ms. Kamelia Kemileva had the honor to moderate the Panel Discussion as part of the WSIS TalkX entitled World Cities Day: Building Climate Resilient Cities with Digital Transformation. The event was co-organized by the WSIS Team of the International telecommunications Union (ITU), United for Smart and Sustainable Cities (U4SSC), a UN initiative coordinated by the ITU, and the Geneva Cities Hub (GCH).

Mr Malcolm Johnson, Deputy Secretary-General, ITU, delivered the opening remarks, stating among other things that the ITU is dedicated to supporting cities to become more sustainable using digital technologies. Ms Kemileva and Mr Johnson both reconfirmed the commitment to partner in the organisation of a large cities-based event, Mayors talking to Ministers, that will take place during the WSIS Forum 2022, (from 15 May to 3 June 2022). This event will be dedicated to strengthening participation of mayors in the WSIS. Other participants in the Panel Discussion stressed the importance of finance-accessible solutions, more inclusiveness and assistance to cities which need it. A rich and diverse exchange including very concrete “best practices” were shared during the webinar.

The video recording of the webinar is available on the website of ITU.
